Drupal Project or totally custom solution

Hello Drupal community,

I need your advice about a project I am about to kick off. I have 2 proposals for the project, one software house is giving a totally custom solution and says that they will use their own CMS system. Another one is offering to do the same project in Drupal. Please judge objectively as this is THE Drupal site :)

Now the requirements are:

- Full custom website look
- Membership based
- Each member to have its own site with the content he generates, i.e. multiple blogs per member, image galleries etc

- Each member to share its content with his "friends"
- The content access can be set for each friend (limited view, full view) and also per blog or image album (for instance, i want one album private and other public and another one for friends only. If a friend is added as limited, he can only see public one but if the friend is added as full, he can see public and friend.
- Friends to get updates of all activity that his friends perform on his site (blogs, photo add etc)
- High load site with a lot of members

Example:

User A logged in --> home site to have 2 subsites and his network
Each subsite of user A to have its own look (predefined template), own blog, own gallery but managed fully by user A.

User B has the same setup. They get informed of each others posts.

How much will version 7 change??

if i start in version 6.4 how will my modifications/themes carry over to version 7?

how soon will version 7 come?

Drupal based website - Build and Release

Firstly not sure if this is the right forum to put this. I was unable to find anything related to build and release of drupal based web sites.

I'm new to the world of drupal and php and have the task of handling drupal builds to various environments (development, QA, Stating and production). Currently for every release of the site i usually have to go through the following set of tasks:

1) Update the code.'
2) Update DB with insert scripts to mo
3) Login to the website and from the drupal admin console tasks like, enabling/disabling a module. Changing block location width etc.

I've to repeat these steps and they are highly error prone. Was wondering if there is an automation tool around it. I've done some reading and believe i should be putting following things into place:

1) Installation profiles for each release of the website.
2) Modifying DAST build scripts for my website is what I was looking into, did seem to be promising but am unable to download the dependencies from the abherry.info site. Hence unable to get it running. Also it seems there is no support available for DAST as well.
3) Phing: I'm going invest some time in reading about it.

can drupal do URDU sites?

hi, can i have a drual site featuring URDU as a language?

thanks

certain content for certain eyes only?

hello, i am going to have between 50 and 200 different users, not too bad.

1. i will upload content for them (sales reports for each user, transaction histories for each user) that only one specific user will need to see, and no one else. it's similar to how when you log in to a bank, you only see your bank account, not everybody else's accounts.

this content can come from me just FTPing pdfs, or if i got fancy the website could grab data off of tables from mysql.
