2 Drupal sites using the same mysql db?

I'm going to be making my son a new website. I get my webspace through my boyfriend who has a hosting package with alot of bells and whistles. I have a domain name. My sons will be a virtual/subdomain (no I don't know how that part of it works as it's something my boyfriend set up for me). My sons domain will be in a directory on my server but it will be a seperate directory of where I have my copy of drupal installed.(both are in my ~/)

a few questions about drupal before i jump into it.

hey guys im in a band , and i run our site , were about to head out on tour and it looks like drupal would be an easy way to keep our site updated ( cus now its the old fashioned html and then upload it , wich i can only do from my pc wich has my web page maker on it ) becus of its bloggin and things like that , im not really sure how it works just yet becus im not the best in programming or anything like that , but i would nee the ability to do some password protection for a street team section of the site and thats about it .

PostgreSQL

Hello,

After I learnt that MySQL is doing business with SCO, I am migrating to PostgreSQL, and as a result I will have to move my existing Drupal site to PostgreSQL 8.0.3 (from MySQL 4.1.9).

My question is: Is Drupal 4.6.3 100% compatible with PostgreSQL 8.0.3 ? Can I expect everything to work fine if I just export my Drupal database from MySQL 4.1.9 and import it into PostgreSQL 8.0.3 ?

Is there anything I need to know before using Drupal with PostgreSQL ?

Drupal designing capabilities?

Hi all

I'm in search of a CMS. My main perspective lies in freedom of design. Most CMS I've come across are extremly limited (mostly to a 2-to-3 column design). I've tested Mambo which seems to have the desired freedom. But it comes with some nagging issues, so i was inclined to expand my search for viable alternatives.

basicly i want to know if drupal can handle such things as...:

Password-protecting selected pages

In another discussion in thids forum it was stated that you can't password-protect selected pages in Drupal. Either everything is password-protected, it was said, or everything is open to the world.

I suggested that this was somewhat peculiar and asked if it was possible to get around this. I am about to build a site that needs some pages to be open to the world - including search-engine spiders - and others that should only be viewable by registered subscribers only. This facility is non-negotiable.

Would any one mind giving me a little direction to start with ...

This post is to ask if D is suitable to my needs and what module etc I need to use to accomplish my needs. I am new to D so I am not familiar with all the options etc.

1) My site requires an admin to be able to post latest news style articles. The page can only have a maximum of 12 posts. Each page needs to have a title field, an fckeditor or the like, and the ability to add a row of thumbnails (3) that match predetermined template look and feel. The thumbnails need to link to full versions of the picture (pop up if possible). The ability to add a row of pics in optional for the page. I need several pages like this.

2) A static page with the option to add up to four title/links set in a predefined location. The page displays the title if exists and a link if exists.

3) A photo gallery.

If someone could tell me what area of drupal to use for each and give a little direction that would be much appreaciate and really help to get me started.

I also have these few questions if you wouldnt mind.
1) Is Gallery 2 and Drupal (and things like forums) hooked together with single sign on?
2) Do modules like article and or user registration allow the addition of new form fields?
3) Are these form fields able to be set up with custom field validation?

I think that is it. Thanks for your time. I will start reading all of the docs.

Its no problem if something is not possible or if its required to do some coding. Please let me know either way.
