"Drupal is a very resource hungry web application ..."

I am currently trying to find a host for a few websites I want to run on Drupal. I contacted a host that was spoken of favourably here in the Drupal forums with a few questions. A snippet from there response (that contained quite helpfull Drupal specific info) was:

"Drupal is a very resource hungry web application and under
a large load, it runs the risk of being shut down by our admin team if it
begins to debilitate the server it's running on."

SoundDomain-esque

Is Drupal an app that could achieve something like SoundDomain.com rides?

I want users to be able to set their vehicle type, add personalized content (including pics of their rides), add basic car facts, and then have kind of like their own personal blog about their car(s). Even as I write this I'm getting the feeling that this would be a custom project!

Anybody seen a comparable setup on Drupal platform?

Thanks for your help!

can i do this with drupal?

I am considering creating a Drupal-powered web site. Since Drupal is relatively complex, I don't want to waste a lot of time trying to figure if it can do what I want it, so your help in this would be much appreciated.

A Digg-like Community?

My goal is to have a sort of community blog like Digg or Slashdot where users submit news and such. I have been unable to complete this with Wordpress and Nucleus, so I thought I'd try a full-fledged CMS. Could Drupal complete a website where users can sign up and immediately post news. From there users could also rate and comment on news people have posted. Is this possible with Drupal? I'm terrible at PHP and MySQL, though. I can make some layouts with XHTML and CSS.

File Names - Drupal download and installation

Hi all,
I need to migrate my current website (php) into Drupal. My site is indexed in searchengines and I cannot run the risk of looking rankings by changing file names. My concrete question is:

1. Can one control the exact file name, including the extesion, that Drupal will use when a page is posted?
2. If so, can I keep a file extension such .asp?

Second question
If my current site is hosted in a Windows server. Can Drupal just be downloaded and uploaded into my server?

Thanks

2nd MySQL database or IIS?

I've been looking for a solution for our company internal intranet solution and think Drupal is the one. What we're wanting to do is:

* Central file storage of protocols/procedures
* Internal/external contacts
* Holiday calendar
* Staff In/Out board
* Noticeboard
* Web links
* Access restricted by user level (possible to link to Active Directory Policies?)
* Ability to alert users to new uploads to the Intranet
