Looking for a community event/calendar CMS

Hello. This looks like a great community and a great CMS!
I am volunteering for an organization that wants to be connecting site between various local peace organizations.

I am wondering if I could get some feedback to see if Drupal/CivicSpace might be the right fit for us.
The idea is to have a website that many local organizations could post events to. The three main components of the website would include a common event calendar, announcements/news and links to other organizations. The project will begin with a common calendar and can expand from there.

Some requirements for the event calendar:
-multiple organizations/individuals can add items to the calendar
-calendar items need to be reviewed by an editor before they are posted.
-calendar items should be categorized by organization
-calendar items should be able to span multiple dates

Potential ideas for the calendar:
-Events categorized by type
-RSS feed of events
-ability to feed a particular organization's calendar to their own website
-ability to feed the whole calendar to other websites
-a chronological list of upcoming events
-a mailing list to notify people of events

I recently switched to Drupal on my own website. I am wondering if someone could tell me if my ideas and requirements for our community calendar can be met with Drupal and modules. I have looked through the descriptions of modules, but can't tell if they will do what we need. It looks like CivicSpace is based on Drupal with a few different modules. I posted a similar question on the CivicSpace forum, but thougth I would tap the Drupal community to see if there were additional thoughts.

Setup for Forum and Blog Site

Hi All,

We would like to set up a forum (vbulletin) and blog site (drupal). Do we need to have two separate sites, or is the blog site part of the forum?

Thanks!

Adviseability of launching limited site with Beta

I'd been researching CMSs for a literary site that--for various reasons--needs to be up within the next several weeks. I've been holding off and waiting for 4.7 to come out until now, but I'm beginning to wonder if the beta might actually work for my needs until the final release is, well, released.

Essentially, all I absolutely require to launch is ability to post stories, some sort of taxonomy-based menu (so I suppose I'd be using the Categories module beta), and the Organic Groups functionality. So far I've got all of the above working on my test site.

Multi-sites again

Here we go again with the multi-sites. I have read the install and the search and the multi-sites entries in the forums, and I am not clear. Most of them talk about sub-domains.

I have:

  1. Drupal 4.6.5
  2. 2 Separate websites: abc.com and xyz.com
  3. I want 2 separate databases.
  4. Only 1 instance of Drupal and 1 install of MySQL
  5. I don't care if they have to have the same modules or not. I could live with the sames modules.

Do I need A?

Am I on the right track?

I have downloaded and successfully installed Drupal and several modules on a test site and I am truly impressed so far.

What I am trying to accomplish is a community travel site where I (as administrator) can add users, and each will have their own website (and mysql db) where they can post travel journals, photo albums, and have an anonymous (and moderated) guestbook. I would also like their home page to have specific profile information.

Example of intended site structure:

Main Page: www.mysite.com
User 1: www.mysite.com/user001
User 2: www.mysite.com/user002

I think I am able to figure out how a majority of this will work for individual pages (Drupal makes this quite easy for a novice), but my issue is trying to come up with an Index of users on the main page.

What I would ultimately like, is a way to Index user profiles on the www.mysite.com that will update from custom fields in the user profile. (Or maybe even from a flexinode?) So that each user can make a change to their profile, or flexinode, and the list index will change accordingly. (Users can change where they are listed by Category and Sub-Category)

Example:

  • Category 1
    • Sub-Category 1
      • User Pages
    • Sub-Category 2
      • User Pages
