Does Drupal, either natively, or via a module support a upload/download management area that would be used in the following scenario?
Customers are able to upload and download files in a secure manner, allowing only selected staff and the customer to see the files. Other customers cannot see that customer's files and vice versa. Each customer or user could be given their own directory on the server for their uploads, thereby separating one customer's files from another and allow alternate access to the same files (i.e. point an ftp server to the same directories). Many of the files will be quite large and are highly confidential. It should support uploads/downloads of at least 100MB, preferably support uploads/downloads up to 1GB or more. Files should be saved outside the web root so that they cannot be downloaded from a browser without going through the download manager interface. Files must not be stored in the database, but instead stored in the file system. If possible, and optionally, files should be encrypted (even if a hacker somehow get to the file itself, they can't use any of the files. They have to download the file from Drupal which unencrypts it before downloading).
Is something like that available, either in Drupal or as a module or even as a separate program? I need this kind of solution. It would need to work on an Linux/Apache server with MySQL installed.
I have tryed 4.6.5 for couple of week now (coming from xoops) . I 'm impressed by the flexibilty of flexinode and in general by drupal (even if it's sometimes hard to make it work for a non programmer in comparision to xoops) .
Now I 'm wondering if I must install right now the version 4.7 before my base is too heavy, or if upgrades are not really a problem and if I should wait for a full 4.7 realeased and upgrade.
I am considering using Drupal. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to investigate into the details before I begin. I hope I can get some quick help here.
Sorry, if this is a repeat (I tried looking though the past archives, but couldn't find the answer)... I'm interested in doing a mini links directory (ala Yahoo!) that incorporates Adsense (both ads and search). Would this involve the default Drupal installation with Weblinks and Adsense modules? Typical features would include users being able to add links, report dead/bad links, and maybe even make comments on and rate the links. Searching for links keywords would pull up what's in the database and include the Adsense ads. Thanks guys. This is pretty exciting stuff.
I have only used Mambo/Joomla! and have found it really doesn't suit my needs for a community. I have a few questions about Drupal.
1. Looking at the available designs they all look very simple. Can you create very complex designs? Any examples of a really advanced design on Drupal?
2. In Mambo/Joomla! content goes on a section - category - content scale. Is Drupal the same?
3. When viewing content does it come up in a blog style as it does in Mambo/Joomla!?
4. Are there add ons for Drupal?
Hi, here is a IRC log from #drupal-support about using taxonomy. Probably a lot of people will find this usefull:
[15:37] Without using taxonomy, I shoudl still be able to create a fairly static website with menus right?
[15:38] yes.
[15:39] taxonomy confuses me
[15:39] whats the purpose besides making categories for blog topics
[15:40] rump: organizing, categorizing nodes
[15:41] so i get terms
[15:41] but why the vocabulary
[15:41] rump: well, first of all, how many terms are you gonna use?
[15:41] i never know what to put for vocab
[15:41] what's a "category" vs. a "blog topic"
[15:42] "Blog Topics" => Name of Vocab
[15:42] "Monkeys" => Name of Term within "Blog Topics" Vocab
[15:42] well, say i want to categorize animals
[15:42] animals that are warm blooded
[15:42] animals that are primates
[15:42] animals that eat fruit
[15:43] can one node belong to all of these
[15:43] of course.
[15:43] and across multiple vocabs?
[15:43] http://www.disobey.com/node/1693 is a blog post that has 5 terms: Words: adware | Disobey Nonsense Network | Firefox | google | winer
[15:43] yes again, sure.
[15:43] or not. entirely up to you.
[15:44] rump: facets are not hierarchical, that's the idea
