Before you start

Hi there!

I´m trying to install 4.7 with mysql 4.0. I´ve been reading lot´s of posts about the utf-8 topic and still not sure if theres any solution. Right now drupal is working but the database tables are corrupted. Some spanish characters are stored as Á°, Á% but displayed correctly throw drupal.

¿Is there any procedure for making Drupal work saving the characters correctly in mysql 4.0?

Has anyone ever configured a Drupal site for Windows XP? Everyone I have talked to has only used Mac or Linux to use Drupal. I'm extremely new to Drupal, so I might need some step-by-step instructions as to how to install/configure a site. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I've been on the lookout for a good CMS for the longest time, and to be perfectly honest I find it overwhelming.

I know already that Mambo isn't the option for me, because it looks overly complex for an average content editor.

Basically, I am putting together a website for my band and need the following functionality:
- blog/news
- events/calendar
- image gallery
- video gallery
- discography/releases
- guestbook & message board (yes, both)
- message board
- links page
- contact form

This is a side project I want to do for kicks.

Basically I am planning to start up a site, which will have a directory of businesses in a specific industry. There will be reviews written by people that have used the services. I know Drupal is well capable of doing something like this.

I also want to able to display ads for businesses that may want to advertise on the site. Is there a good banner module that will allow both top and side banner, track banner loads, and track banner clicks?

i'm using E107... but does this do everything, gaming modules, good clan themes, and custom user fields... etc

I manage a rather large website and am thinking about using Drupal when we begin the new redesign of the site in the next month or so. Currently this site has over 40k subscribers handled by what was a custom developed membership system which only captures the users email address and nothing else.

So my questions to all you drupal experts out there is how would i convert members from the existing system to the new system where Username and Password are required?

Is there a way to seemlessly do this?
