Is this international option possible?

I am working with a close friend who wants to develop a Drupal site that has English and German content. Each article would be posted in both languages (human translation not a computer) and what he wants is to be able to click a button and switch from one language to the other.

So for example:
You are on story 12 in german and want to read in english, you click english and it takes you straight to story 12 in english.

I assume you can modify the code to show a german site or an english site, but how do you associate the articles together?

Selective access to user created pages?

In general terms, I'd like to create a site which allows each user to create some content which is only visible to a select group of other users. Each user would belong to one or more groups, and would be able to view the content of other members of those groups. They would only be able to edit their own content. The content should include a blog for each user (only the user would be able to post, only other members of the group can read and comment), a calendar, a photo gallery.

Drupal as secure enrollment system?

Hi all - I've been working with Drupal for a year or so now and am looking into a new business venture that I would like to use Drupal to drive.

I'd like for the site to have the following capabilities.  These capabilities can be done using either existing modules or custom-made modules.  I'd really like to know if something is possible or not with Drupal.

  • Non-Secured front page and informational pages (such as "about us")
  • User level
    • Secured Enrollment System able to use a visitor's SSN and PIN as their log-in.  This data will be pre-loaded into the database.
    • Once the user logs in, they will have the ability to go to a page to fill out an enrollment form with their demographic information pre-populated by the database (Name, Address, etc).
      • User will go through multi-page enrollment form selecting various options.
      • As user adds various options, a cart-like box will show their current chosen options and the total $ amount associated with those options.
      • For a possible future option (not looking for it to be in the first live version of the site) the end of the enrollment form should have the ability to pay current balance via credit card or electronic check and also have the option to perform a monthly auto-draft or select to receive a monthly billing statement.
  • Sponsor Level (2nd level of access)

Drupel for elaborate webcomic

I've gone through about 4 different "friends" that said they'd make my webcomic site for me. Alas, I'm a year afterwords and I've got NO website. I've begun learning CSS and PHP, but have quickly become overwhelmed by the elaborate architecture of PHP, and have somewhat given up.

I am now looking for CMS' to do my bidding.

But here's my problem: I want VERY specific things!

-A design identical to how this looks in firefox (Green images are placement images): http://www.alwaysfallingshort.com/test
-Comic caching, so that a comic isn't posted until a specific date and time.
-Seperate news page with multiple news posters with avitars.
-Web based admin panels for news posters, banner ad control, and individual news poster's profile page.
-Banner priority controls.
-Secure login for all of the above.
-Color chooser for above mentioned theme.
-News that is associated with the current comic posted, so that when a new comic is posted, the news page resets, and is now empty until a new news post is posted. News posts are in order from oldest to newest. Similar to how Penny Arcade does it.
-Searchable archive page

I want to be able to do the above things without having to rewrite a bunch of code, or do an extensive ammount of work. I'm an artist, not a web designer. If I DO need to do a lot of work, well then, I'll just do it in PHP myself instead of working with Drupal. I'd get it done faster, at least.

IS Drupal right for me?
