drupal 5 testsite to replace 4.7 livesite questions

Newbie here,
I took over a 4.x site for a non profit, and am now creating a 5.x testsite (with its own already SEPARATE database) upgrade. I have had so many problems with upgrades with the old database and structure of the site, I decided to do a whole separate install of drupal 5.1 with a new database, and new files folder, etc. Before I switch my site to the 5.x version, I want to see if anyone has any advice as exactly how to do this, to make sure there are no issues, as my organization can't deal with anymore dead sites (as have occured in the past with 4.x upgrades).

Here is my system set up:
Hosting company: Dreamhost
Site name: example.com
Subdomain name: test.example.com
both sites are up and running live on dreamhost when I navigate to their addresses
mysql 5.0
php 4.4

Current live public Site:
/home/.beaker/example.com (has drupal 4.7 installed)
database name: drupal4

Current live test site created under subdomain:
/home/.beaker/test.example.com (has drupal 5.1 installed)
database name: drupal5; separate civicrm database name: civicrm

Here are the steps I intend to follow:
1. Back up everything, including databases and site folders.
2. Turn off all contrib modules and themes. (don't know if I really need to do this, but will do it to make sure there are no hiccups)
3. Change /home/.beaker/example.com folder name to example.com.backup

Using the forum

Hi everybody, I am very new to Drupal. I want to know if you think Drupal can help me if I need only the forum part of it. Can I install only the forum or can I use just it? Or maybe there is a forum that is the same as Drupal's but comes as a stand alone?

Thank you

Develop online in sub directory?

Newbie here:

Is it possible to develop online in a sub directory and move the site to the root when done? Any instructions around?

How about moving a site from one domain to another, is this possible?

Thanks, Lee

Is Drupal a viable solution for heavy traffic community sites?

Hi I am trying to determine the frame work for my new business plan and am trying to figure out wether Drupal would be a good frame work for high traffic community based sites. What risks are involved in running the cms for a community site versus programming from scratch. Can it support individual user pages? General thoughts are greatly appreciated thank you!

Does Drupal require scripts to be on the server?

A very basic question - Does Drupal require that my server allow scripts to run? I am a high school teacher maintaining a school web site on a server run by the board of education which, for security reasons, does not allow us to run scripts. Does this restriction eliminate the possibility of using Drupal? I suspect it does, but I'm just checking. What a great thing if I can use it!

A reply via email (even a simple Yes or No) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Photo Album and Photo Integration?

Hi Guys,

As might be expected, I have a question about suitability of drupal for my needs.

Basically, I have tried many blog packages over the year, and some cmses (what's the plural of the abbreviation anyway?). I don't have any fancy requirement; most of the packages I tried do a more or less good job (although the cms'es were all way too complicated). From what I have read, Drupal should do the trick and help me be more flexible than wordpress which I currently use.

However, there is one area that I can't really judge well from reading up on things on this site, and that is the topic of photo albums and photo integration. With wordpress, I use wpg2, which quite frankly sucks - Gallery is a great gallery software, but it's just not integrated at all into wp (and, I presume, the same holds true for Drupal's Gallery module).

So this is what I am looking for:

- Classic nested photo albums, browseable, with photos tagged by topic and location (taxymony (sp?) should do the trick, I think)
- Comments to photo pages integrated into the overall system (a given as well, I presume)
- Use of photos from albums in articles etc
-- Inclusion "abstracted" - I don't want to have to use img src tags
-- Clickthrough to photo page
-- Use different thumbnail sizes, for example for index pages, "featured posts" etc
-- Watermarking
