I was definitely planning on using Drupal for my next project, and I still think its the best PHP CMS out there.
But after having done some work in Ruby on Rails, I'd definitely say that if you are looking to customize Drupal at all, that Ruby on Rails is a good idea to look at as an alternative.
If you haven't read this Einstein's blog yet, it is worth it.
From "Launching Blogtronix - Blogging and Social Networking service on Microsoft NET Yes baby" by Vassil Mladjov:
You may ask why we want to use .NET vs. Drupal or some other free blogging software. Well, because after talking to many corporations and potential clients, they all want a platform that integrates with your current IT infrastructure. I'm interested in possibilities to auto-generate technorati tags for nodes.
e.g. If the category name were used as a technorati tag?
e.g. If when you create a category you can also specify related technorati tags?
Oh, and in the aggregator perhaps it could look for technorati tags as a way to automagically create aggregator categories, and stuff the aggregated thingy into the automagically created aggregator category?
