Simple newbie question... Can I do this with Drupal

Please help me cut to the chase and decide if Drupal will work for me....

I want to setup a CMS for a club that will allow club members to maintain their own personal page but I want to restrict what they can do with that page. I only want them to be able to input about 5 blocks text and add 3 personal photos and not be able to change anything else on the page.

Drupal trip report for novices

This note is aimed at people who know nothing about Drupal and content management systems in general, but who are comfortable with the basics of building web sites using php and mysql. This described me a week ago. I still claim little knowledge of Drupal, but after a friend suggested that I take a look at it, I did manage to get something basically working after a few days of relatively concentrated effort. How did this happen?

My sole experience is as a hobbyist who built a simple book club web site in php and mysql. This site allows users to log in, suggest new books to the club, and make commentary on books. So there is some simple form processing and database access. As I read through the Drupal web site, I tried to understand how I could replicate this functionality. No answers seemed readily forthcoming. Here are some ideas which I've stumbled on. Since they seem to work, I kind of assume that I'm doing things right. But you never know when you're scratching your way through a new system if you're really going down a dead end. Anyway, here's what I found.

1. Just install Drupal even before you know what you're doing. The directions are straightforward. No explanation given in the documentation makes any sense whatsoever until you've done this and taken a look at the directory structure and the database. I didn't fully understand until I had done the installation that in using Drupal I would have my own mysql database using Drupal-defined tables. After installing, do the first login to Drupal to establish administrative access.

Why's there a teaser field in the database?

I'm still relatively new to Drupal, so apologies if this has been answered before - I saw a couple of threads about this question of the teaser, but didn't really find an answer. What's the point of the teaser column in the database? It doesn't appear to be accessible anymore and it appears to be just duplicating content from the "body" column.

Gallery2 seems pretty flaky.

been playing with Gallery2 mod for a couple days now.. think i have re-installed it about 20 times.

I am tryng to use it in a multisite config and i am not too sure it really supports that.

Mostly it works. but errors like this a pretty common - almost expected; certainly not something oi could deliver to a client.

i get this when i:

- try to add ZIP file (yes, zip mod is activated, installed, configured, etc - wouldnt it be easier if it just worked without all the hoops???)
- try to delete images
- try to delete album

but, it seems to work better on my first install; i.e the 1st of mutlisites

Does search work on THIS forum?

ok, before i go off an my search rant... is there a way to do a "proper" search on this forum?

I went through this in great, painful detail on the tiki-wiki discussion forum but figured they were just the oddity in the world.

by proper i OBVIOUSLY mean:

the following search "red ball" (without the quotes) should return only hits with red AND ball.

pretty sure this site is doing red OR ball.. which for 98% of searches is useless.

Good module for statistics?

Hi,

I need of a module for web-statistics (user IP-address, external referers, OS used, browser used, etc.). Can you suggest me one?

Thanks,
Giulio
