node_privacy_byrole problems

I just installed node_privacy_byrole module becuase I need certain account roles to have full access to edit all nodes, even if they were not the authors (but not have access to everything on the site).

I enabled "edit" ability for all the nodes for that "editor" role, but only some of the nodes allow the editor role to edit them. Most of the nodes say "access denied" when I try to edit them with the "editor" role.

I uploaded the module to my modules directory, enabled it in 'modules' and then enabled it on its settings page. Is there anything else I need to do?

how does the pingserver.module work?

I've got a question that's making me go bananas. How does the pingserver.module actually work? I've installed it on 4.7.0-beta4. It seems to be up and running fine (I've got menu items and no errors), however, I can't be sure. I have no idea on how to test it. From what I gather, it runs like weblogs.com...you ping a drupal site with this module running and it will list the site...I think. Has anyone got this up and running? I would appreciate any explanation on this as I think this is, in all liklihood, a very cool module.

cheers,

Allowing a Space in a Username -- Did Drupal Break a Hallowed Convention?

I have found the the 40/50-somethings-spend-all-day-on-a-computer-but-don't-know-much-about-computers who populate my first Drupal project site are baffled by the fact that Drupal seems to ask for and allow spaces in usernames.

Your full name or your preferred username;

That's confusing. It should just say, "Username (spaces allowed)". Also, it would be nice if there was a distinction between a "username" -- to log in with (no spaces allowed), and a "nickname" which would be attached to all the content you create.

Changing the default sorting of Flexinode Tabular View

Tabular view in flexinode is just awesome. But I have a small problem with it and haven't been able to find a solution in the forum.

What happens is this. My flexinode table is a list of publications with three fields: Title, Author's name and publication date. The default sort of the flexinode tables (flexinode/table/x) is by Title, but my clients would rather have publication date in descending order as a default (as in flexinode/table/x?sort=desc&order=date). The date BTW is not Drupal's date and time, but just a year (2204,2005...) inputted with a pull-down menu.
