How do you guys update your live Drupal site?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to Drupal. I have been reading the handbook and testing around for some time.

When you are operating a live site with Drupal, what's the best way to upgrade? I'm asking this cos I see that Drupal's modules and themes only work for different version. We can't just overwrite the new version of Drupal.

So when we upgrade to a new version of Drupal core, we also need to install, customise and set the modules and themes again.

How do you guys update your live Drupal site? What's the best method?

Next and previous forum topic links

I've searched the site, but can't really find a post that answers the question of how do I change the paging links at the forum nodes in Drupal 4.7

In Drupal 4.6.x next and previous forum topic links appear in $links variable, but in Drupal 4.7 RC1 next and previous forum topic links appear in the node body, and i can't controle it !!

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks.

Addtional fields for different taxonomies

I have a few flexinode content types setup and I want there to be some specific fields are that are availabale depending on the taxonomy chosen , ...

I thought about rewrite thing the flexinode to create nodes for the additional fields, and then in the 3 content types i had initially, if the user chose one of he taxomonies that has the same name as a flexinode, then show those extra fields and somehow map them together?

uploading file attachments

I am only able to upload 2 attachments. If I upload a third, one of the previous two attachments is deleted.
I need to be able to upload at least five attachments.
is this a drupal setting? or php for uploads?

please help.
thanks!

Drupal RSS API: Something To Think About

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a little comment regarding RSS feeds. Since then, I have done a little more reading and run a few experiements on my install of Drupal. I have come to the conclusion that Drupal needs to lay the smack down on RSS. As powerful and cool RSS is, I think it needs a little coddling and love to make it behave.

Of course, Drupal kicks major CMS butt when it comes to the RSS feeds, but with many of the cooler features that have been introduced and some features having been refined in 4.7 - it is apparent to me that we really need to rethink how Drupal runs RSS feeds. Initially, I proposed something like a "Feed Wrangler" module. A module that would provide some level of control in harnessing each Drupal web site's feed and organize how these feeds are displayed to the web site visitor. But, after doing a bit of reading, it seems that RSS in Drupal is more the responsibility of the module developers and the developers use a few things to build the RSS feeds.

What I think would be a much better solution is an RSS system where core has ultimate control over RSS feeds and module builders access this core feature to create feeds for their indiviudal modules. Here are some of the basic features I can think of:

  1. Master Switch - a button to grant administrators the ability to turn on/off all RSS feeds.

Edit tab- cannot edit content nodes

for some reason, I've lost the ability to edit some of my content pages.
I see the Edit tab, and I click on it but there's no 'Body' where I can change or enter text.
specifically, here's one content node where that's happening:
http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal/node/232/edit?destination=admin%2Fnode

does anyone know what I can do to get the body field back?
or, even why this happened.

thanks in advance for any help.
