Drupal too complicated - best alternative?

I was going to use Drupal for a content management site that I am working on for a client, but I have found it to be way too complicated. All I really need is user/login/roles and content with content-types (i.e. I can specify how many and what kind of fields I need for each kind of content. i.e. 'News' might have title, subtitle, main content, while 'Resume' might have name, college, work experience, etc.). Oh, and I might need some upload funcationality, but I think that I can be flexible on this since I've seen some PHP mini-projects that could handle this no problem.

Drupal: Content management or extended blog?

I have a project that I started for a client, and they requested content management, user login, and some other features that I thought Drupal would fit well with. When I installed Drupal I discovered that it generates sites that are more of an extended blog than a real content management system. My client needs to be able to edit content on a number of pages, but they do NOT need article-type blurbs on the page with "read more" and "add new comment" links. Each page needs to stand on it's own.

Artists First - interesting digital music/downloads shop solution - includes mobile payments

hi guys,

I've been having a look at a few of these (download shop solutions) and while it's a little bit buggy (only minor little glitches - not showstopping errors) and the payment rates (after the mobile operators' cut is taken) are quite low, I thought it might be worth flagging up here.

In a nutshell, the Artists First solution allows bands/artists to setup their own digital download shop, accepting SMS mobile payments, PAYPAL and credit/debit cards (via paypal) and selling downloads including: MP3, video, images, files, TRUETONES (aka REALTONES).

It's quite well put together, especially the TRUETONE (aka realtones) sales bit, but, the main drawback is the revenue share between the Artist/band - Artist First and the mobile operator. For a £1.50 sale (whether it's a file, mp3, video, image), here's the splits depending on operator:

operator sale price/artist revenue
-------------------------------------
Vodafone £1.50/£0.70
Orange £1.50/£0.69
O2 £1.50/£0.71
T Mobile £1.50/£0.68
Virgin £1.50/£0.42

I've nothing to do with Artists First. I was just trying out their solution. They have a free 3-day trial to suck it and see for yourself and the setup price ranges from $19 for a basic account to $30 for a label account.

Modules and themes path

Now the modules and themes are in root of drupal. I want to change the path of modules and themes.
For example, I have my drupal in localhost/drupal,
so modules and themes are in localhost/drupal/modules and localhost/drupal/themes.
I want to move the modules and themes folders to the root of my web. so is like localhost/modules and loacalhost/themes.

The reason I want to do that is because I want to share the modules and themes through several different drupal sites. I don't want to use the multi-site feature of drupal.

Interesting for finnish community?

I looked People who live in Finland and found that there is 185 finnish users.

I was wondering if there is interesting for finnish community site where you can get support in finnish and maybe also get forward the quite poor finnish translation for Drupal.

I'm quite new with Drupal but interested to be one maintainer if we get few others also.

What do You think?

mysql compatibility

Hi

Is there some issue ragarding drupal and mysql 4?
I ran drupal on my localhost using mysql 5 without problems. Then i exported my database using "mysqldump --create-options --compatibility=mysql40" cause the server the site is running on uses mysql 4. The site dumped the online database, and now my watchdog & accesslog (and some more) tables produces warnings and are not working anymore.
Warnings are "user warning: Duplicate entry '0' for key 1".
