Drupal 7.x

This is D7 and a bit puzzling. My page.tpl.php file sets up a two column layout. In the CSS file the right column is floated right. The footer has a width of 100% and does a clear both. This is all very standard.

Today when adding blocks to the right column, I noticed that the first node in the content region has its height increased to a little more than the height as all the blocks in the right region. The result is a large area of blank white space at the bottom of the first node, which is bordered.

I'm new to drupal and am somewhat confounded by the sheer mass of contributed modules. I would really appreciate input on how to meet these requirements for a site I'm about to build!

I am thinking it's time for me to ask questions and start my notebook up. This means buying a couple of good writing pens. sigh. Just point me in the right direction and I will do my best to not need more help.

First, I am re-learning html/css/java and trying to get up to where I can start learning more PHP, so I am doing my homework and putting my foundations in place, just in case the flames were already inbound.

Ok, so I have churned around the modules section and found several mods that appear to be able to do what I want, so to find out which ones I need to use, and garner advice on making them play well together, I am going to start off with a brief description of what it is I intend to have happen as a result of my labors. If I could just get recommendations on what mod to use, then if I can't figure out the interactions I'll ask for help.

1.)The site needs extended reg forms, to get interests etc...almost like dating.

2) The reg info would be added to a profile page, with pic, list of interests and list of submitted works.

3.)Members will have a rank, which I think can be made using roles? This will affect the availability of certain themes, features etc. Not sure how to set up menus in particular to be limited by role. I also need the higher ranks to inherit all the privs of lower ranks.

Before I get around to posing my questions about which modules I am going to need for my site, I just wanted to swing in and tell the developers and community of drupal, thank you. I got my hosting setup the same day I found out that all these CMS backends had been developed. I tried just about every other flavor offered before stopping into drupal. I already know that this is going to be the cms that will suit my needs. I hope you guys hang around and continue to grow. I am crap as a developer, but I will try to contribute, especially to documentation and such as I can.

I'm looking for a company to design a business directory module that will manage advertising listings and handle billing. I was originally looking at wordpress but have decided on Drupal based on flexibly of design. My site would need the following functionality...

I have install Drupal 7 on two domains, both with the IMCE module.
But on one of them I have this weird problem. When I upload a file the button upload shows that the file is being uploaded, but it never ends - but the file is uploaded. It seems that IMCE does not get the callback that it is in fact uploaded.
On the other domain it works like a charm.
