I currently operate and maintain a forum using the MyLittleForum script (http://mylittleforum.net). My users absolutely adore the site layout and functionality. But I want to expand into other features using Drupal and am limited with MyLittleForum. Plus, there are some improvements I'd like to make to the forum that would take some custom programming and I can't find anyone to do that with MyLittleForum.
I'd like to find out what it would take in terms of time and price to make a forum in Drupal with the same (or better) feature set as MyLittleForum. Once the module is built, I'm pretty sure I could tweak it the way I want it. Then I would be able to incorporate other Drupal modules and plugins into my site as well. In addition, I need to somehow bring my existing users over into the Drupal database. MyLittleForum uses one-way encryption (salted hash), so I'm not sure how this would need to be done.
As an alternate idea, I would entertain the idea of building a bridge between MyLittleForum and Drupal, although this is not my preferred path. But if the custom forum module pricing is too prohibitive, it may be the only way I can get something going in a reasonable amount of time (until I have the funding to pursue a full module). As I said, however, I want to avoid this alternate idea, if possible.
Anyway, I see a few possible ways this could be achieved:
