Newbie needs patch help

When I say newbie, I mean I installed this thing 4 hours ago.

Yeah so I don't really think of myself as an idiot but right now, I am ready to don the dunce cap because I think I must be missing something. I have been trying to figure this out for the last three hours and I still do not have an answer to my dilemma. I am not typically one to need things spelled out for me but in this case, I think it is needed because I am at a complete loss. My question is simple, I think.

How do I install a patch on my online site?

Static Homepage Content

Hey guys, I'm new to Drupal and all, so please excuse me for my noobish question... but I am just having some trouble with adding content to my homepage. Ultimately, I just want a homepage with a bunch of static, introductory content (not latest blog posts, or anything like that). I first did this, by adding a basic page and having it promoted to the front page, but then, I was left with the "Read more" link at the bottom of it (which I do not want).

How to create URL for content/* ?

How does one create a sub-folder kinda URL as how the default blog content does in Drupal?

For instance, we can create certain display style to apply to blogs/* which will apply to all blog content.
How do I create a custom content type similar to the blog such that I would be able to apply similar rules to my-content-type/*

Much appreciate and TIA.

How to add embeded flash code as a CCK field?

Hi Friends,

I would like to know how to add embedded flash code in Drupal7 as a CCK field or at least in body field.
I have tried different things but it seems Drupal filter out the embedded code, hence I can't make it work.

Can any one tell me a tip or some idea to make this work.
This is the sample code I want to put in Drupal7.

Security

There is any way to work with drupal without put write permission on files directory? There is a way to use a local user to do this?

D7 post install file & directory permissions

Hi,

I've just installed Drupal 7. During the install I had to create the default/files directory and private directories manually.
The 'out of the box' site is now up and running.

At present the default file contains the following with permissions as indicated after the path..

/public_html/mydrupalsite/sites/default/files 766
/public_html/mydrupalsite/sites/default/private 777
/public_html/mydrupalsite/sites/default/private/files 777
