Installing Drupal

Dears
I was just advised to use Drupal other that Joomla.
Actually I am new to both CMSs. Cannot find any comprehensive doc on Drupal in pdf.
Is that available at all?
Can some one help, pls?

I have installed Drupal on Apache on windows.
After succesfully configuring the database i'm trying to open the site configuration, but I just get a blank screen. I have tried with both mysql and postgres and the result is the same.
please help.

I've just made a new installation of Drupal 6 at Bluehost. Now I'm trying to install a choice of themes (Corky, Dossier, Zen) by ftp-ing the unzipped files to public_html/sites/all/themes. The installation seems to be recognised—which is to say the new themes get listed on my admin/build/themes page. But the thumbnail screenshot doesn't appear there, just a question mark; and when I try to switch in the theme, it doesn't function, I just get unformatted pages. Any advice gratefully received.

Installing Drupal. A seemingly simple procedure it seems...
for the un-initiated however, it appears not.

I am running a Macbook with 10.5 OS x.
A MAMP local server Version 1.9.4 (1.9.4)

The issue is the "The Drupal installer requires that you create ./sites/default/settings.php" error.

I have followed instructions to the best of my ability but still no luck...
I like to be thorough, so, not really after quick fixes -

I am yet to learn Terminal or tcsh so, command line will not help me yet unfortunately.

I believe I understand the problem - but I seems that I dont have the required knowledge to fix it as yet.

I would greatly appreciate considered responses on
-where the file should be copied to, ( I know a new file should be created but I dont know if I'm copying it to the right place)

-How to configure the local host-(if required for a straight ahead install,)

- and providing the permissions to the required files.( on Mac does the server have its own name ?
is it enough to allow read and write to everybody)

Simple stuff for the experienced,... not so simple if you are learning.

Not wanting to come across as foolhardy, I would like to document the process of instillation for the
Macbook / MAMP configuration for the above specs. - to include screen shots if possible,

I have Drupal 6.19 on my local computer. I have corrupted it somehow, so I want to get it off and start over. I can not get any of the uninstall scripts to work. Perhaps I am using the wrong thing. I have tried changing the name of the top folder (XAMPP), but I am not allowed to. I have tried moving the folder someplace else, but I am denied permission to do so (And this is my personal computer!!). I can not sign in because I have either lost or corrupted my pass word. I can not email myself a new password because there is an error in sending it (can't do something with Port 25).

Hi, I'm currently trying to get clean urls to work on Snow Leopard Server 10.6.5. I've tried all the things in the support documents but it seems like it only works up to 10.6.2 I've enabled all overrides in server admin but that doesn't seem to get it to work. With wordpress that's all I needed to do, but with drupal, it's not working. When I say it's not working I mean the option to enable it is still grayed out.
