Installing Drupal

Greetings all:
I'd like suggestions to install Drupal 7.14 in my Ubuntu 12.04. I'd rather use Ubuntu's Synaptic Manager to install Apache, MySQL and Drupal. Can anyone please give me some feedback if succeeded in installing Drupal using this method?

ps: I'd like to install a multisite and e-commerce modules with Drupal 7.14

What to do?

Hello,
I have a site installed on a server and I'm trying to move the site into my PC, I'm using WAMP on my PC.

Here is what I know about the things I need to do:

1- Move all server files under www dir to the corresponding dir under WAMP
2- Dump the db from the server db and create it on WAMP

I did both but it's not working. Am I missing something?

Can anyone guide me through this process or point me out to some written instructions?

i have a problem with installing drupal 6. when trying to import my core drupal files to acquia, the error saying
"cannot write file- C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"
appears. i have changed all permissions and "etc" folder is not read only.
it would be great if somebody help me to solve it.

Now, I have another problem.
First of all, I need to give permissions to registered users for postings in forums. (Only the Administrator can post)
Then, i have to modify the permissions for registered users not posting in main page.
