Installing Drupal

Hello,
I want to edit the confirmation email drupal send the username and password when someone registers. I edited the user.module and i deleted the part I did not want. It did not seem to be working. Still drupal send the same email including the part i deleted.
How can I change the email?

Hi, I just install Drupal and love it, but I have this extra / that appears after my domain name for example: http://foobar.net//?q=user which results in any form being submitted to http:///?q=user Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks.

At my Drupal site i`m posting reviews(weblinks) and creating a path-alias with a number of current post (only those post which are necessary to me).
Can i create a permalink with url of post`s path-alias (and can i show this permalink near node-links or near post`s title)?

I'm the tech admin of a student newspaper, and I would like to try drupal as a website engine. Things we need:
- the ability to publish for everyone, possibly with no comments allowed but that's not sure
- a private site where editors can prepare for publishing
- the ability to have certain editors approve or disprove of articles
- the ability to publish deadlines, etc...
It's pretty specialised application, but I have the feeling Drupal will let me handle it. Am I right? Does anyone have experience at this one?

I've been unable still to has my site listed on drupal sites page here at www.drupal.org. I often see this error message in my watchdog:

failed to notify 'www.drupal.org' at '/xmlrpc.php': XML error: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 15

Any ideas? at least in how I could debug this...

I'm using drupal-4.3.1
