Installing Drupal

I have a problem where the banner module does not display banners, but just the text, even in the Admin sections. It looks like the image is not being parsed correctly from the banner module. So here is what you see:

I've searched the site (as best as I could) and only came up with 2 hits for this problem. One was a post by someone else that wasn't answered (http://drupal.org/node/18857) and the other was in the issues section and it said that it was fixed but didn't say how or where (http://drupal.org/node/19967).

I get this error when I go to "create content" and then "upload file":

4.6 Archive Calendar Misbehaving

I searched the bug reports and the forums for hours, but came up with nothing relevant.

I have a fresh install of 4.6 release with 4.6 modules, no upgrades, etc. The following modules, aside from archive, are active:

Aggregator
Comment
Help
Image
Image_asst
Menu
Node
Page
Quotes
Story
Syndication (new module, not the integrated one)
Taxonomy
Taxonomy_dhtml

Hey,
I just downloaded the latest version of Drupal to play around with. I am hosting this on my own WinXP computer, with Apache2, PHP5 and MySQL. Now, to get the e-mail unction, I need an e-mail server. I've tried using my ISPs details in the php.ini, but it turns out they won't allow e-mail without a cirtain tag or something.

So, what easy-to-setup SMTP mail servers would you suggest? I'm behind a router, so I'm not sure how it'll work with sending e-mail to myself (I can't access my own server via my No-IP DNS - I have to use 192.168.0.2 or localhost).

Anyone have any ideas? I followed the install instructions to a T. When I access my Drupal page at http://www.cyruspatten.com/drupal this is the error I get:

"Lost connection to MySQL server during query"
