Installing Drupal

Wow, just installed drupal and it's confusing so far. I even bought the book on Drupal, phpbb and wordpress. I have phpbb and wordpress already installed so i bought the book mostly for drupal.

I THINK, I installed it correctly. However, when I go into the admin I see this php message:

php message -- php 01/31/2006 - 15:57 Access denied for user: 'XXXXXX_drupal@localhost' to Anonymous

I replaced my username above with XXXXXX.

When I click on details it isn't much help either and the book I bought, no help.

What does this message mean?

I can't seem to get a rid of that PHP Aession ID thing from my URLs. I have gotten a rid of them on the main pages, but every time I submit something it pops up.

I have tried:

in the .htaccess file:
php_flag session.use_trans_sid off
php_flag session.use_only_cookies on

and

php_value session.use_trans_sid 0
php_value session.use_only_cookies 1

And no go. So I found a link to this but I'm wondering how to apply it to my common.inc file.

I've just tried to install Drupal 4.5.6 on my server and I can't get it to function properly at all. Ive read through the documentation, changed php.ini settings (then changed them back), Ive tried uploading the files to my server via three different ftp clients, I have tried downloading the drupal archive via wget from the server terminal and extracted exactly the way the install.txt directed and moved all files to apache doc root.

In the process of installing additional modules, I recieved the below listed Warning!/error messages. Subsequent to receiving notification of these messgs, the messgs in turn have prevented us from accessing our main site. Thus, we are both delayed & prevented from continuing the initial site organization and work necessary to bring the site live and operational.

Can anyone brief me on these errors, their cause and what I need to do to resolve??

Is there a list somewhere that shows which OS, version PHP, Mysql , Drupal etc... that shows the perfect combination that works without any problems. I have tried on Ubuntu, Fedora, RH9, WinXP XAMPP with variuos issues with each.

A recommended configuration would be nice.
