Menu Module, possibility of wildcards in path names?

I'm developing a site that relies on the menu module for it's primary navigation. For the most part, it's great, but I'm running into some behavior I'd rather not have on the events section. If you go to the default "/events" path, the url gets rewritten with the year/month/date/view settings in the path, killing the "active" class applied to the menu item.

My question is, is there any way to set a menu item to a wildcard ("event/*") so it would retain it's "active" status on any pages that have variables tacked on to the end of the path?

Is there a better way, using Cpanel's File Manager, to install Drupal to public_html

I'm wondering if there is a better way to install Drupal in the public_html folder than the way I'm currently doing it, while still using Cpanel's File Manager. Up till now I have always uploaded the Drupal tar.gz file using File Manager and then extract the file contents using the File Manager's extraction capability. This works great, except for it puts the extracted files in a folder such as drupal-4.7.0-beta-5 for example.
