Yes please! This seems to be sadly lacking in most table modules.

If you don't need to change the table structure on a per-node basis, check out Matrix Field. That will allow you to create a table with a combination of any input field/widget. The only issue there is that you end up with the same table for each node.

Have you thought of joining forces with Matrix Field?
Raised it as an issue there as well: #785680: Integrate with CCK Tablefield?
