Confirmation ignores failure to send email

If an anonymous user subscribes, and a there is an error sending the confirmation mail then they see two messages:

Unable to send email. Contact the site administrator if the problem persists.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail shortly containing further instructions on how to complete your subscription.

The second message should not be printed if there was an error sending.
