In path_redirect (D6) all redirects are created with in the column "last_used" the time() of creation.
In redirect (D7) the column "access" contains a zero when created.
In both versions the columns mentioned are updated to the current time when accessed.
As far as I found out this means in D7 the redirect will never be deleted when it is never accessed. This is a change in functionality from D6.
I like to have an option in the D7 version to set the current time in the column "access" when a redirect is created, like in D6, so the redirect will be deleted after the set purge period has arrived.

I ran into this issue too. I'm changing it from "feature request" to "bug". The UI allows you to set up deletion of redirects "not accessed for X months". A redirect that is set up 3 months ago and never accessed has not been accessed for 3 months and should be deleted if that is the time period selected.

I found a solution, at least for the creation date. See attached patch.

Works for us too; let's get this committed.

I'm not sure that redirects should be created with an access date. It's more a fault of the delete functionality, although I agree that this may be an easy workaround, as we don't have a 'created' column which could be used.

In any case, the patch was not created properly, see Making a Drupal patch with Git
