The 'Thank you'-message is hard-coded in the 2.x version of print_mail. This is a feature regression compared to the 1.x version. To resolve this, I suggest the following options:

  1. Move the 'Thank you' message value to the $form array, so it can be altered by other modules.
  2. Implement the 'Thank you' message configuration in the admin form. This method is also backwards compatible with version 1.x

No. It wasn't a regression. It was a simplification. If you want to override the module strings, use the String overrides module.

The patch in the issue wasn't applicable if you tried using it in a makefile.
