From jQuery component version 1.9.x up through 2.x, none of the modules which use jquery/javascript work on the front page anymore. These include Panels, Responsive Menus, and Views Slideshow. jQuery seems to not be active on the front page. This is a big problem.

Can anyone advise? It seems to be related to the issue listed as a related issue, but I'm not sure, as it is a different module than I am using.

The related issue has nothing to do with this issue. The problem is that some modules do not support newer versions of jQuery.

You have three options:

1) Try enabling the jQuery Migrate plugin (on the jQuery Update settings admin page).
2) Keep downgrading the jQuery version until you find a version that works for your specific site
3) Find the specific module that is breaking your page and file an issue in their issue queue.
