Is there anyway to integrate image cache actions into rules?

I think this would be great for a whole range of things. Say for example you have a range of news articles and you have a png image with text saying something like "Epic news!" that you want applied only to articles with certain cck field filled in or something.

Maybe its a bit of a stretch but i think it could be pretty handy.

image cache could support rule-based action execution.

I think it would make for a pretty awesome feature. I dont know of any other module that currently allows anything like this.

I'm trying to figure out a method of doing the same thing for Drupal Commerce. When an item goes on sale I would like a sale ribbon across the image.
