I'm using the following modules with Drupal 6.16:
ImageAPI 6.x-1.6
ImageCache 6.x-2.0-beta10
Views 6.x-2.6
The following is set:
Clean url's are enabled
Download method is set to public
Both folders under file system are writeable.
I've created a preset in imagecache and the folder is created and I can see the preview image.
As soon as I create my view, I can't see the thumbnails. It's all blank. The original images are displayed.
What am I missing here?

fasthanweb commentedI also have the same trouble and same characteristics as you. Have no solution yet....
fasthanweb commentedI fixed it.
Before I set my thumbnail in imagecache by add scale width=100 height=blank.... I thought height will follow the width to make the image keep in proportional scale.
Now i fixed it by not let the height blank. I input height=100. And then the images show up in my views.

unc0nnected commentedI can confirm this bug is present all the way up to the latest dev copy(2.x-dev).
I was doing some testing and ran into some funny behavior.. So when I setup a preset(display640x480)imagecache tries to display an example of that preset in files/imagecache/display640x480/imagecache_sample.png?1305172642. Obviously it's broken as it's not working, BUT if I manually create that directory, copy that png into the dir and then reload the present page where imagecache is trying to show me that example it actually deletes the file I just copied into the directory. So it's doing something, just not sure where it's messing up
I'm not sure if this is relevant but I just ran a few more random tests and came back with some surprising results..
the files inside files/imagecache/display640x480/ directory completely ignore the effects of any .htaccess files, no matter if they are in that actual dir or in a parent directory. To test I created an .htaccess file to generate a login prompt, this prompt was generated everywhere I went except when I entered the url of an image inside oen of my preset dirs. It would seem that the effects of any and all .htaccess files are ignored in all of my preset galleries.. Could this be what's causing my problems? I imagine that the .htaccess in drupals root dir wuold also be ignored here
[EDIT]: Alright, more tests run and I've determined it isn't the directory location that is causing this to happen it is the file type. All images are ignoring .htaccess rules, regardless of where they are.. So files/test/test.html will follow the .htaccess rules but files/test/test.jpg or .png will ignore them

unc0nnected commentedAlright!!! Problem solved over here!!
It turned out that my nginx configuration was taking images and movies and having them bypass apache and go through nginx. This caused them to ignore all .htaccess rules including the ones set out in drupals root dir which caused imagecache to royally mess up.
I've never seen anyone mention nginx in relation to this issue so hopefully this answers some questions for those of you who are stumped.
Incase you are doign this yourself, go into your nginx.conf file, find your domain in question and see if there's a line like this:
location ~* ^.+.(jpg|gif|ico|css|js|png|flv|wmv|mpg)$ {
If there is you need to take out anything you are going to be making thumbnails with imagecache for, png, jpg and gif should probably do it but take out the whole section if you really want
Restart nginx and you're off to the races.. After 13 hours of deadends I can't believe this nightmare is over

RKopacz commentedHaving a similar problem. my client is on a Network Solutions shared hosting package. PHP Safe mode is off, all directories have permissions of at least 775, Drupal 6.20, all the latest modules for Image api, imageCache, imagefield, etc. I get an empty box in a gallery I've created, regardless of which preset I use. What is strange is that the images seem to be displayed for on taxonomy, but not another taxonomy that I have created, using arguments in views to create the galleries.
