lolandese commentedPages on web sites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr. See https://www.flickr.com/help/guidelines/.
If you really insist, you can use the module String Overrides. It provides an easy way to replace any text on your site that is wrapped in the t() function (all user facing text of the Flickr module).
Read https://www.drupal.org/node/2298239#colorbox.
If it's still not working check the correct configuration of both Flickr and Colorbox in the sandbox demo.

Pepper commentedThanks. I think I would prefer the link for each image to show up once it's opened in colorbox, to point to the image on flickr. Or if they're thumbnails linking directly, can't the thumbnail itself being the link meet the guidelines? And what about the link to the photoset itself, rather than to the original photos, which used to be the link at the bottom of the block?
lolandese commentedPlease clarify if the concerned submodule is Flickr Field or Flickr Block.
Some things you ask seem to be possible but takes reading of the module documentation, configuration page help texts (under the fields) and some fiddling with the settings. This is the trade-off of offering lots of options. It makes the configuration more complex. The sandbox demo is the example to turn to and try different kinds of settings. Use https://simplytest.me/project/flickr/7.x-1.x?add[]=stringoverrides to have the String Overrides module included.

CASE B:

Specifically the class and rel field.
CASE C:

Pepper commentedThanks, these are very helpful.
It looks like the major problem I have left, and I'm using flickr field in a views block to display a photoset.... is that the photoset images refuse to open in colorbox after an upgrade to the newest versions of libraries (2), colorbox and flickr.

lolandese commentedCompare your settings (both Colorbox and Flickr) with those of the working sandbox at https://simplytest.me/project/flickr/7.x-1.x. This always uses the latest DEV version of the module with Colorbox 7.x-2.10 (latest stable version at time of writing).
Check with a non-Flickr image as well to confirm it depends on the Flickr module.
