Is there a way to have scrolling pager items? For example, if there is a spot for 4 pager items and I want 8, to have them scroll across the bottom.... Thanks.

The next version of the ddblock module will have this functionality.
It is already implemented in the dev version of the ddblock module and in version 1 and 2 of the views_slideshow_ddblock module.
