Current product variation token values

Drupal commerce product can specify the current select product variation via URL arguments (?v=123). Unfortunately, when setting up product schema, [commerce_product_variation:*] tokens do not appear to work. Tokens where by the variation is specified (eg. [commerce_product:variations:0:*]) will resolve but do not always reflect the information shown at the time the product is loaded. Is there a way to obtain variation values shown at the time the product page is loaded? Thanks, I appreciate your help.
