Dries is meeting with Tim O'Reilly next week (and various other folks from companies like Google.) (He's open to setting up more meetings.) This was set up in part by Jeff from Lullabot, who has connections to the important O'Reilly publishing house.

This morning I went through both Robert Douglas' book on Drupal and the more recent David Mercer book on Drupal trying to understand a particular issue. Both books are excellent and well worth the money. The Douglas book has advanced and basic topics. The Mercer book is primarily for a basic user. However, it's well worth the money to buy both of them. It takes so much time to test modules that if I save even one hour because I use a module they recommend instead of testing an entire bunch, I have more than recovered the cost of the book.

Nevertheless, I think it would be great to have the well-known O'Reilly Press publish a Drupal book. They have a book on Moodle. A really thorough and detailed book.

Perhaps if people post here saying they would buy an O'Reilly book even though there are already 2 of them, it would help facilitate the conversation next week.

I have 5 php books, and I would certainly buy 5 Drupal books.

I have two of the three existing Drupal books (can't read German so the third wouldn't do me much good).
Both books are very well written but I would still buy another.

Apart from all available Drupal books, I have a shelf full of O'Reilly books. An O'Reilly book about Drupal is more than welcome. Please include information about development (both modules and themes, API usage, etc.) and usage of specific modules (like e-commerce).

I've bough all three books (my german is not that good but i did learn a few things from that one).

But i'm still missing a book about module development. Tutorials on
* how to create a custom module,
* how to use the forms api,
* how to create a new view using the views module. etc..

I think O'Reilly Press would be a very good candidate to publish such a (more advanced) book.

I'd definitely buy at least one copy.
