Permissions for sites/default folder and sites/default/settings.php file?

I have copied my drupal files to a new machine. and im getting a warning from drupal now that the sites/default folder and sites/default/settings.php are not protected and need to have their permissions changed to non-writable. So what are the correct permission settings to apply to the sites/default file and sites/default/settings.php file?
