Hello,
welcome to Drupal. You didn't say what the error that occurred was and when it occurred. But here's some suggestions anyway. Put all the modules and themes back - you've probably pulled something out that is required. That should restore the site to the original error (if you haven't done anything else to "fix" it).
I had an error occur suddenly after I added some modules when I clicked on Administer; a series of runtime errors. Looked like a stack overflow from running out of memory with the extra modules in. I removed what I didn't need and am fine.
Modules in a newly-installed Drupal 6.12 are: aggregator, block, blog, blogapi, book, color, comment, contact, dblog, filter, forum, help, locale, menu, node, openid, path, php, ping, poll, profile, search, statistics, syslog, system, taxonomy, throttle, tracker, translation, trigger, update, upload, user.
Themes are: bluemarine, chameleon, engines, garland, pushbutton.

Try that and send us extra info: what error, when, what you had changed, configuration.
