I got Drupal running will little effort. I then decided to add a wysiwig edit capabiltiy. Downloaded wysiwig api 6.x-1.1. Had touble with fckedit and yui, but tinymce loaded ok. I then configured the module and I kept getting a table not found error (drupal.wysiwyg not found). I had some other errors and decided to try the latest dev version (6.x-2.x).

I renamed the \sites\all\modules\wysiwyg to wysiwyg11 and uncompressed the 6.x-2.x to wysiwig. Drupal did not see the new install. I then deleted the old directory, now named wysiwyg11 and oops the module no longer shows in administer > site building > modules.

How can I get it to show again?

It must have been tired. I deleted the wysiwyg directory for the second time and when I logged on the next morning it was ok. Maybe cache, too many browsers and sessions going. All is good in drupal land.
