My need is to have some people allowed to edit existing pages, without the changes being public until a boss-type OKs the changes.

I have been using Revision Moderation for this in D5, and in seems to work ok.

We are now going to switch to D6, and there is a Revision Moderation module for D6 that seems to work in a similar way. But I'm curious about the Modr8 module, which is also available for D6.

Can anyone comment about how these modules are different and where is the overlap? Can they be safely run at the same time - and is there any point to doing that?

Thanks! -Steve

I might be wrong, because I've just noticed it, but modr8 doesn't seem to cover changes made to the page once it's created (i.e. the user can change the page without approval), and revision_moderation only covers pages that have already been created (i.e. the page itself isn't covered because it's not a revision, only subsequent versions).

Like I said, I'm investigating so I may be wrong. But if I'm right, they seem to complement each other in a way, other than the fact that the use different admin interfaces!

EDIT: see http://drupal.org/node/310723

revision moderation allows you to keep the existing version of the node published and live while moderating the next revision.

That's the main difference-- there may be other smaller ones.

I guess I'm familiar enough with Revision Moderation - your definition makes perfect sense to me. So, what does Modr8 do? Just control who is permitted to create new content?

Basically, yes but with some publishing workflow. But i think the modr8 page describes it better:

Provides an administrative interface for managing content in moderation.

Allows you to preview content, as well as approve or deny, and send messages to the author informing them of your choice.

Thanks! I guess I would say that the Modr8 page describes it well enough, then, except that it lacks the very important (to me anyway) disclaimer that it only applies to NEWLY CREATED content. I'll post a message on the Modr8 issue section asking them to make the description on the Modr8 page a little clearer.

welcome-- and that sounds like a good idea.

Modr8 has several Email settings for sending messages to content authors if their content has been approved/denied. I don't see this feature in the revision-moderation module. Any chance these two modules would be combined?

I doubt it, but the only way to get a firm answer is to ask in the issue queue of the modules in question.
