Support Palestine on Drupal homepage

I see on the drupal homepage "We stand with Ukrain".

There is genocide going on in Gaza and you only have to be human to see it and which we surely are.

Please place text on drupal homepage like "Stop Genocide in Gaza" or "We Stand with Gaza".

I request the community to please support the cause.

Drupal should avoid getting into political issues. That means removing the Ukraine banners, asking people what race they are, DEI initiatives, etc etc. This site and the software should be neutral.

You illustrate a problem that happens by not being neutral: now they have to come up with an explanation for why they'd support one issue over another.

There are plenty of other sites that are willing to take stands on issues.

Available for paid support, module development, migrations, consulting...

Fair enough, but if they are supporting Ukraine, then I see it as an opportunity to ask them to support Palestine as well. They are also humans and in a very very bad condition. Much worse than Ukraine or anywhere around the world right now.

Fully agree. I've been thinking this for a while. I thought the callout on Ukraine support was removed after the redesign but just noticed it (https://ibb.co/Hfj4qMHz). As far as I can see there's a war in Ukraine between 2 countries that have armies, albeit one was invaded, so I can relate to the support on one level.

But, for Gaza, there's literally a genocide of a people with no army. It seems pretty clear that Drupal Assoc tendencies to call out support for Ukraine inline with the foreign policy of the USA but nothing for Palestinians. It's very sad to see this radio silence and reduces the value of the statement of support for Ukraine.

I think the Ukraine support got in because there is quite a lot of code contribution coming from there. However I also struggle with the question if at all and if yes, when does a political issue warrant a public statement. It's definitely a slippery slope.

Not gaining as many code contributions from a region can’t be used to dismiss or downplay genocide. That’s a deeply flawed and unjust metric. It takes no effort to be human and acknowledge suffering, to show solidarity, and to affirm that Palestinian lives matter just as much as any others.

So after your logic why not also take a stance about the civil war in Sudan then? After all over 150000 people already died there.

I don't see why an open source project needs to make public statements about condemning conflicts when it is already by its nature a symbol of inclusivity, embracing the sharing of ideas - the very opposite of what every conflict is about.

I think it's everybody's personal obligation to demonstrate for or against the issues they are invested in. To actually influence the political narrative locally wherever we are.

We should indeed take a stance for Sudan against the RSF and boycott the UAE together with Israel likewise. Where did I say we shouldn’t? This thread was about Palestine…
