This is not related only to Drupal 11, in my case it happened on D10.3

My suggestion is to treat this as a separate issue, not as part of #3465381

Could we have an MR against the 3.x-dev branch?

As it is still in alpha version, we could merge it without taking too many risks.

After working on MR 40, I feel like having a category for a single field type is pretty useless.

Unless I miss something?

Could someone provide a repeatable scenario from a fresh Drupal 11 instance?

Looks like the best solution is to simply remove that useless category attribute.
