This issue is to coordinate and track the steps needed to remove color from core to contrib after it is deprecated. See Remove a core module and move it to a contributed project of the deprecation policy.

The removal of color was approved in #2808151: [policy] Move the Color module to a contributed project when Bartik is deprecated

  1. Complete work in #3270899: Remove Color module from core
  2. Update the contrib project: #3302976: Port remaining changes from core
  3. Open an issue, 'Ensure that module Color does not get special core treatment'. #3291601: Ensure that color does not get special core treatment
  4. Manually test upgrading from the core module to the contrib module. #3302799: Manually test color module removal
  5. Move core issues for Color module from the core queue to the contrib module.
  6. Move all core documentation for Color module to the contrib project.
  7. When the issue in https://www.drupal.org/project/project_composer is Fixed update the documentation with the new Composer command.#3291601: Ensure that color does not get special core treatment

@andypost, thanks for keeping an eye on these issues.

However, this is not a duplicate. This is a list of the tasks that are done on the 10.0.x branch to complete the process of removing Color from core and moving it to contrib. Of the tasks in the issue summary items 2-5 are not yet complete. The other issue is for tracking the tasks that are done on the 9.4.x branch.

I can't 100% be sure, but it sure seems like color module changes are impacting test failures in https://www.drupal.org/pift-ci-job/2363965.

The deprecation and removal of farbtastic is dependent on removing Color but it is not a step in the deprecation and removal of Color. Therefore, I am removing from the list of remaining tasks. The deprecation issue is now in the meta, #3296094: [meta] Deprecate modules and themes that will be removed from Drupal 10 core by 9.5.0-beta1 and the removal in the meta #3213858: [META] Remove deprecated modules and themes from the Drupal 10 branch.

A few days ago I moved the Color issues to the contrib project and moved the documentation as well.

All the tasks in the Issue Summary are complete.
