AmyJune coming in from California, Ohlone lands. Happy New Year! |
| Kwame Puryear |
 Hello, I'm Kwame from California's San Francisco Penensula (also Ohlone land). I'm a new site builder & AmyJune said that I should help out, What can I do to help? :meow-thanks: |
| tim |
Tim Will hopefully have great new feature / info to add to the ability to determine Category info, next week! |
| leslieg |
Thanks @tim looking forward to it |
| leslieg |
hi @Kwame Puryear and welcome. We certainly appreciate your willingness to help out |
| leslieg |
Would you be willing to do a 1 on 1 interview with me to get your initial thoughts on the project browser @Kwame Puryear |
| Kwame Puryear |
I'd love to. When is good for you? |
| shaal |
Hello! |
| leslieg |
@Kwame Puryear does sometime after 1:00 PM ET tomorrow work for you? Or Thursday after 4:00 PM ET? |
| Kwame Puryear |
@leslieg 1 pm ET Tomorrow is great for me. Should I add my contact info to the Project Browser Planning Google doc? (edited) |
| leslieg |
you can add your email there or dm me if you prefer @Kwame Puryear |
| Kwame Puryear |
@leslieg I'll do both. Thanks. |
| AmyJune (volkswagenchick) |
I will be at Florida DrupalCamp and hoping to maybe do some interviews. Are those still needed? |
| leslieg |
Yes. I wanted to go as well but looks like Omicron won’t let me attend |
| leslieg |
I have some interviews to schedule as well. I’ll add each as an individual issue so you know who I have scheduled. Please do the same as you hold interviews and thanks for your efforts there |
| AmyJune (volkswagenchick) |
Sure thing. |
| tim |
I think, IMO, keep doing what you were previously - Look at the category in small chunks. Or maybe 1 at a time if needed. |
| tim |
The shreadsheet is good because we can look back over time and look at previous comments from others. (Its just difficult to look at others comments. I don't have a good suggestion. hmm) (edited) |
| tim |
Or maybe we just need to build a website (application) to track and decide the categories! ha ha Maybe not, better ideas?? (edited) |
| tim |
@Kwame Puryear HelloWhat is your skillset as far as spreadsheets go? I can use help if you know spreadsheets.... |
| Kwame Puryear |
@tim I've mastered the basics of Excel & Apple Pages. I think I can find the correct commands in the menus for Google Docs. I have access to LinkedIn Learning to add to my knowledge domain if needed. |
| tim |
I have been using google sheets. I am not tied to google, but maybe the rest of the community is - havent really checked. (I come from an excel background).Might be needing to use MS Power BI. But will see |
| tim |
@Kwame Puryear I maybe should let you get into things before I throw a whole bunch of stuff, but would like some help.Ping me when / if you want to get into this area. there are a couple of areas to help besides this :) |
| Kwame Puryear |
@tim I'd love to help, but i'm not sure what you mean when you say "spreadsheet help". Do you mean analyzing data in Google Sheets? Are you trying to make an app using the Google Sheets API or MS Power BI? What do you need? |
| tim |
Yes , either, to both. Help figure out the data within the spreadsheet, and use whatever software to get the job done.I was using Google data studio, but am finding the community visualizations lacking. MS Power BI, the link you put in above, I think should do it. But I haven't even started to try it yet. Is it free? Can we export if needed, so that the community here can use it.... lots of questions still. |
| tim |
Can also use some help with some sort of documentation. Not real documentation, but better explanation than what I currently tried to do.Or find a way to explain it :slightly_smiling_face:@Kwame Puryear |
| tim |
Help in whatever way you feel most comfortable - best use of skills etc |
| tim |
The last couple of weeks I have been only in google sheets with formulas. But would be nice to put it into a datastudio / Power BI format / interface. |
| tim |
I would like someone else besides me to be able to answer questions like what I did in the last Site builders Subcommittee (SBS). Where you were.A small team (edited) |
| Kwame Puryear |
@tim I'm just making it up as I go along! |
| tim |
@Kwame Puryear good deal. If you are interested in hearing more can give details, share a couple links. DM (direct message) me directly. |
| tim |
Small details - Need help with ( I will figure it out just takes time and more time) The MODE function / formula in google sheets - turns out docs say only works up to 30. Well I have 1000 points sometimes. Would be really nice to have this feature. Is it worth it to create my own just so that I can get the most common number? It seems inconsistent I got it to work with more than 58+ in a simple data set. In a more complex set the most I could get was 47. |
| tim |
Help in 1.figure out the formula limits. What and why etc2. Is it worth getting the features that this would provide. (Data analysis)3. Is there a way to make it ourselves? Apps scripts would be the way to do it, but they use JS, which I don't know, (yet) and other concern if others use this spreadsheet would require them to get permissions .... (I don't like doing that as a user .... I am a security minded person). Others might not like to do that....Thats a sample of what was working on last night and today. |
| tim |
If you like the 'good' stuff here is a sample formula using regex=ARRAYFORMULA(MODE(ifna(VLOOKUP(REGEXEXTRACT(CList,".*(?:\|"&TO_TEXT($C29)&"\|).*"),NID!$H$3:$I$28032,2,false)))) |

ARe there projects that only address mobile? |
| tim |
I can answer that possibly just a sec |
| tim |
Of the 50 modules that have mobile assigned to them there are only 2 that list only Mobile. All the others have at least another Category (that also includes 14 which is a missing category). Now that is also based on what I have determined to be filtered on. IE is NOT all 47,450 Modules. (edited) |
| leslieg |
There are 117 modules that have Mobile as a category and have our default filters. Maybe Tim can tell us how many only have “Mobile” as the category |
| tim |
Would you like to know what those 2 are?Or based on all 47,450?? |
| leslieg |
Let’s start with what those 2 are |
| tim |
OKbut first since its on my clipboardOf the modules that have mobile assigned there are alsoContent Display 14Utility 11Third-party Integration 11Theme Enhancements 10JavaScript Utilities 10Content 8Fields 8Views 4that share the category as well |
| tim |
Some more as well but those are even smaller numbers |
| tim |
Those 2 are:Mobile Detect https://www.drupal.org/project/mobile_detectSMS Framework https://www.drupal.org/project/smsframework |
| leslieg |
Thanks @tim Both of these modules look to be in use for Drupal 8 and 9 sites. Wonder if they could be moved to a different category |
| tim |
Also I saw 1 using the ecosystem! Is that related to this Category process?? |
| leslieg |
no - ecosystem is related but a separate discussion. Out of curiosity which module was that? |
| tim |
mobile_detect |
| tim |
oh yea the other one, smsframework, does too. |
| tim |
Regarding suggesting to reassign those 2 modules - What about utility? But at the same time I want to clean utility up. |
| tim |
Or what about 'other' Category ? Or is that going to go away too?? |
| thejimbirch |
general “Javascript” category sounds like a pleasant idea. |
| thejimbirch |
Would cover whatever comes next from all those crazy Javascript kids. |
| leslieg |
Do you think sitebuilders and those new to Drupal would know to look for Decoupled, React, etc under Javascript? Is Javascript too technical of a term? @Kwame Puryear what do you think? |
| Kwame Puryear |
My first reaction is that Javascript does not equal Decoupling. A module that does something with the jQuery library for example is not (necessarily) related to decoupling the Drupal interface. However, I think having Javascript as a descriptive tag is needed. I'm uncertain about how to handle the many synonyms, ie, JS, ES6, React, Vue and others I don't know of. I'll have to give it some more thought. |
| tim |
Just for stats:For the Javascript Utilities Category there are these Categories listed below and how many modules share that. (There could be other Categories assigned as well at least these 2)Utility 51Third-party Integration 45Theme Enhancements 33Content Display 30Content 29Administration 26Views 19missing category name 16Site Navigation 11Mobile 10Content Construction Kit (CCK) 9Fields 6Performance and Scalability 6 |
| tim |
Decoupled Category is really small in comparison. The biggest 2 areUtility 5Third-party Integration 5A couple of smaller Categories as well. |
| tim |
Let me know what you want to know. Anybody. I don't have all the info I want yet, but will tell you what I can. |
| leslieg |
Thanks @tim |
| tim |
Outside of stats vs logic, I am on the fence about this one.Decoupled is up and coming technology.Right now there is very little reason to have a decoupled category. Is this going to grow soon?I would like to keep them separate, but not with the current numbers. |
| mglaman |
API-First vs JavaScript |
| mglaman |
I would replace “Decoupled” with API-First, since that usually implies backend related |
| mglaman |
(I think then maybe projects could be better labeled against them, too.) |
| tim |
There are probably lots of modules not assigned to this category that should be. Is that going to bring the numbers up high enough (edited) |
| gaurav.kapoor |
Currently, Project browser has Svelte app generating the actual browser and it gets data via controller. |
| mglaman |
okay, great. Nevermind then :slightly_smiling_face: |
| mglaman |
Thanks @gaurav.kapoor! |
| chrisfromredfin |
Yes, we're querying the current Rest API on d.o v7, but we're attempting to migrate data to a D9 placeholder site for d.o that will use json_api. We could definitely use some help with migrating release nodes into that placeholder site O:-) |
| mglaman |
Like writing a sync script that pushes release nodes as release entities? That sounds fun |
| mglaman |
I've got code somewhere that scraped project nodes into entities, could dig it up |
| chrisfromredfin |
No like we have access to the d.o database, and we're writing a literal migration from d7 to d9 of release nodes, so we can expose them with JSON API. |
| mglaman |
Oh. So like a literal migrate migration |
| chrisfromredfin |
yeah |
