As it happens, the community being able to edit documentation is intentional - we absolutely want the community to contribute!
There are a small number of specific pages that are reserved but the vast majority, right across drupal.org, are editable.
Do you have any questions about that?

rachel_norfolkPeople could mis-use this, yes. This is why many in the community contribute by checking recently updated content for things like spam etc. They are known as "site moderators" and are always looking out for extra help. Catch up with them at https://www.drupal.org/project/site_moderators

drummMaintainers and editors of documentation guides are usually subscribed to receive notifications of edits and comments, so they can proactively review changes.
If you see something that can be improved in documentation, go ahead and edit if you are confident about what it should say. Or comment if you want to point out anything that could use improvement. The documentation is all community-maintained.
