The Drupal Association has used a number of different tools to support the election process over the last few years and, beginning in 2020, we are moving to a tool used by a number of open source organisations, including the Open Source Initiative, of which the Drupal Association is a associate member.

Helios voting tool

Helios Voting, provides the Drupal Association with a tool that is dedicated to one thing: recording votes. By using this tool to record the votes of the electorate, we gain a number of advantages over previous tooling:

  1. We no longer need to maintain assoc.drupal.org to record votes, simplifying our work to upgrade everything to Drupal 9
  2. We have a tool that allows voters to see that their vote has been recorded and tallied correctly, using an independent provider

What to expect from the tool

At the opening of voting, Drupal Association staff will upload the list of all eligible voters to the tool, using the primary email address registered in your Drupal.org account. You will receive an email from Helios Voting that includes a link to the voting page, where you will be able to register your vote. Once your vote is registered, you will receive a confirmation of that vote.

Once the voting period ends, the Drupal Association staff receive the results of the election. They do not have access to individual votes.
