Hi,
I'm considering shifting my site from Mambo to Drupal. I've installed a basic Drupal system
on a test box and I likes what I sees! Nice.

I'd like to changeover to Drupal, one reason is that with the template I'm using in Mambo
the main section of the front page is not editable (I have to edit the index.php file in vi) .
Basically the nice chap who did the initial template for my site in Mambo did it in two seperate
templates, with the front page having its own.

Obviously I might have to copy and paste the main text of the pages but at this stage it isnt too
extensive.
Anyway, please take a look and see if its possible to replicate the look fairly easily?

http://www.ubertechs.co.uk/ is the site.

Many thanks
D

Yes, this is possible. First choose a Drupal theme which is easy to customize, than make your changes (colors, fonts, positioning) in the css files.

If you like, please take a look at my site, and see what i've done with the Lincolns_Revenge theme in 1 day.

Cool - Is it possible with Drupal to have a front page text without
the "comments" "more" links etc? Is this just a content type 'page' ?
Can I embed pictures/photos within this too?

thanks

Yes, it is. Just create a new page (php / html) and deselect the comments option. Now, select that page as the front one in the Drupal administration.
For example, here ( http://www.creditimobiliar.ro ) I'm using a custom php page as the front page.

I'm in the process of switching my Mambo site over to Drupal right now. My Mambo site is at http://www.warrenonline.ca . My test Drupal site is at http://www.averagetech.com.

The template switch was simple. Using Fireworks I built the Drupal page.tpl.php to look like the Mambo site. Then I opened it in Dreamweaver and added the PHP. The only reason the 2 sites look different was just preference. I borrowed the CSS from the bluemarine theme and I'll tweak that when the change is finished.

Whats my best way of having a graphical menu bar throughout
the site as I have at http://www.ubertechs.co.uk now?
(towards the top of the pages, under logo)

many thanks again,
D

1 flexiblock module, A block section at top edited into the theme, 1 list with the proper CSS entered as a block... the look, priceless.

You can build it with the primary or secondary nav stuff in your theme.
