OK so I am attempting to create a site that I will use to document my circumvention of the world in a sailboat with a 4 man crew. I would like to have some sort of GPS Tracking capabilities so visitors can see where we are and where we have been. Possibly some stats involved like how far we are from them... how fare we have traveled... possible future destinations...
Is there anything like this for Drupal? If not are there any developers that are interested in making the mod? Would greatly appreciate it. I think it would be useful for a bunch of travel sites.

There is nothing like this that I am aware of.
If you are willing to pay a developer for this work I can move this to the paid services forum or you can contact reputable consultants on the list @ http://drupal.org/drupal-services

it's a patch for gmap that may suit your needs.

I don't have an answer for that. Only the developers you contact can answer questions about cost in the form of a quote.

Whoa... thanks for your help but... all that jargon went over my head. So does that track GPS? Do I need a GPS transmitter? Will a garmin-like device work? Cell phone?

I've never used it, I can't comment. You may wish to ask in that issue or test it out on a test site so that you can answer your own questions.
As far as transmitting , I can safely answer no. Drupal isn't a reciever. There would need to be some manual input on your end from something like a cell phone with internet connection or something to that effect from what I can gather.

Not a Drupal solution, but it sounds like you are looking for a service like http://www.findmespot.com/en/. Note I have never used the service and am only familiar with it because some friends used it when then rode the continental divide. I also believe there are other competing services. Basically such services provide tracking by their device. It is also possible to place a tracking page in your web site. You will need a satellite based service since cell phone coverage in the middle of the ocean is spotty at best :)
