Problem

  • It is currently not possible to run a single test with additional XDebug environment parameters — without applying the parameters to the test runner itself.

Proposed solution

  1. Add custom/specific arguments to run-tests.sh, which are ignored for the test runner parent process and only passed to the child process(es) that are executing an actual test.

Initial prototype patch attached. (which I'm using to profile test execution from time to time)

Tests pass fine. Not sure what more can be tested.

As per #3228531: document run-tests.sh as not intended for public consumption run-tests.sh is only really intended for DrupalCI - it is easier to run tests locally by directly invoking PHPUnit, so I am not sure that this should be added. The new switch isn't documented either.

Marking needs review for further discussion, but I suspect this should be closed (won't fix).

@longwave, I thought the same as you, that this is won't fix. In fact, I thought I left a comment. Clearly, that was wrong.

If anyone disagrees please reopen explaining why.

Thanks.
