I have searched the forums and Google on this and came up empty. Has anyone done this for a Drupal Site? What would be the best approach? An example of this is the http://www.wired.com website (scroll all the way down and look on right hand side for Text Size etc.

Try the Text Size Module--I think it's exactly what you're looking for...
