Hi,

I want to display different navigation links and data to a user depending upon the role of a user. what could be the possible modules that i could use?

Choice depend a bit on the details but one approach would be to make multiple menus each with the appropriate links.

Enable all the blocks for those menus in the same region, limiting the visibility of a particular block/menu by user role.

Be warned. Of the two downloads for Drupal 7 on https://www.drupal.org/project/menu_item_visibility , one is a beta and the other is a dev. The posting Is this module still alive? on June 11 2015 noted that the "recommended release" is both beta and from 2011, while the latest dev release is from 2013. The maintainer hasn't replied to this posting.

The Drupal-7 download for https://www.drupal.org/project/menu_per_role is a dev, from October 2013.
