Hello,
I'm going to be hosting an academic conference, and was considering my options for a system that would manage that. In my research I found out about COD (http://drupal.org/project/cod), a drupal project made to manage conferences.
The one problem I have is that COD doesn't support paper reviews, a must-have feature for any academic conference. There is an abandoned project that's close to what I need, Conference (http://drupal.org/project/conference), but it's for D6 and is riddled with bugs, and I want to do this project in Drupal 7. I was wondering if anyone knows of a module that could handle this?
Because if not, I was thinking of writing said module myself if I can't find anything here. Is there a demand for such a module? Have you ever needed such a module? What features do you think would be important to it?

it is unlikely that in D7 you will find a single module with all the features included in the D6 conference module. My suggestion is to seek out specific features that you need in the form of a module.
a paper can be submitted in a new content type.
authors can be contacted with the mass contact module or rules.module which may will likely aid in other features you'd seek.

since paper reviews is the only missing functionality from cod, you could use cod as a starting point (not sure how afar along the d7 version is at this point), and just add the feature.
Call for paper(paper management with COD)
I was trying to figure out, how to create the call for papers and paper management, with mass email option for all the paper contributors, but it's really hard to find anything that uses cod distribution.
Please if any body has achieved such thing by using cod, kindly enlighten me

yes, conference module is so good, it was likely built by someone who know by hand the paper reviewing process, or at least guided by someone who know exactly how paper reviewing process work.
looking at its manual, i believe it can be built from many drupal 7 pieces (modules) like a lego. the features needed are all there, already written in the manual.
unfortunately i am not a developer, my time and career are spent on other things.
conference module is like a gem for someone who work in academic environment, who usually too busy with other things :). i am in need of such a module at the moment, in fact we need it every year! but i just dont have the time and capability to work with it. i am just an occasional web builder. i cannot thank you enough drupal developers who contribute their time for such powerful web building tool, which enable me to build sophisticated and flexible website in very short time!
