We should use type int, size "tiny" for boolean fields in core. Examples: promoted, sticky, status columns (node table).

As we upgrade from D7, the upgrade path needs check for the columns containing data other than 0 or 1 to prevent data loss. The field description clearly states Boolean type, however there are multiple modules using these columns for custom functionality.

The overall Drupal 8 integer size clean-up:

  1. Small size for field_sql_storage field multiplicity
  2. Tiny size for filter status
  3. Small size for forum comment count
  4. Small size for image width and height
  5. Tiny size for language direction
  6. Tiny size for locale 'status' and 'customized' flags
  7. Tiny size for locale 'status' and 'customized' flags
  8. Tiny size for multiple node flags
  9. Tiny size for node_access_test private flag
  10. Tiny size for poll active flag
  11. Changed from small size to tiny size for system flags
  12. Small size for system menu type flag eg: MENU_IS_LOCAL_TASK
  13. Tiny size for entity_test default_langcode flags

For the emphasized items I need some advice, as they are limitations in usage.

Removed the accidental search reindex flag. It stores timestamp which requires normal length integer.

Thank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.

We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.

Thanks!
